Registration Information
The Local:First brand was created to be entirely inclusive of every business type, industry, and sector of the economy and community. The logo and branding elements are made available online and free of charge, governed under a Creative Commons license, to any business who wishes to join us in saying, “We want to support our local economy: First!”

We do ask that you agree, and abide by the branding guidelines we have set forth in order to maintain consistency, continuity and ultimately integrity of the brands image.

Once you have registered you will be listed on the “Partners” page of this website, and will have access to high resolution Local:First graphics that you are able to use in your businesses marketing and promotional efforts.

Terms/Branding Guidelines

Brand, Values & Design Philosophy

In the development of the Local:First brand, we have tried to exemplify in every respect a distinct identity and philosophy. Throughout this guide you will see and read about the exact guidelines governing the use and implementation of our logo, typography, and graphic design. The standards within were created to give you a technical understanding of the components and structure of the brands image.

The Local:First brand was carefully created to encompass and represent the goals and philosophy of community development. It embodies the idea of symbiotic relationships, protection and security, balance with flexibility, and the stylized swirl that brings the focus to a central point.

In all of our communications and graphics, it is our wish to radiate a simple sense of elegance, sophistication, and harmony. 

Brand Logo: Symbol, Logotype & Website Address

This new Local:First logo is the graphic representation of our brand and the values for which it stands. It identifies the underlying message to the world, displaying an image that is both strong and discrete.

The Local:First logo combines three important visual elements of our brand, the Local:First logotype, the stylized swirl symbol, and the myLocalFirst.ca website address. The image below illustrates the recognizable graphic features that make the Local:First logo unique. The Local:First logo elements should never be separated. Position, size, and color, along with the spatial and proportional relationships of the Local:First logo elements are predetermined and should not be altered.

The importance of this cannot be stressed strongly enough; modification or re-treatment of the Local:First symbol will detract from the integrity of the Local:First logo, disqualify your use of the Local:First brand and its images and, more importantly, the overall value of the Local:First brand.

The unique stylized swirl symbol stands for balance, harmony, and a focus on the centre point.

The Local:First logotype was created as a specific artistic style to convey the personality and voice of the Local:First brand. The san-serif style was favored for its simplistic quality and ability to render a balance and symmetry that is complementary to the Loal:First symbol.

The myLocalFirst.ca website address should be included anywhere the Local:First logo is used. This is an integral part of the programs branding as the website will act as a central hub for many program activities.

In order to protect the integrity of our brand, the logotype must never be altered or replaced by any other type.  

Background Imagery

The Local:First branded background imagery was designed to offer a uniform design template for print applications. The green dominance, smooth lines and yellow undertones were carefully selected to reinforce the brand and should be utilized whenever possible.

The Local:First background imagery should never be separated. Position, size, and color, along with the spatial and proportional relationships of the Local:First background imagery are predetermined and should not be altered.

Size and Spacing

Clear space refers to a distance of “X”, as a unit of measurement, surrounding each side of the Local:First signature. The area surrounding the logo (X) should be even, unpatterned, and free from typography, illustration, or other graphic elements. The clear space surrounding the "MRV Communications, Inc." logo should never be less than 1/4 the height of the logo. For example, if the logo height is 1/2 inch, it must have at least 1/8 inch of clear space around it.

A minimum clear space requirement has been established to ensure the prominence and clarity of the Local:First signature. It is essential that the Local:First logo remains free added graphics, taglines, identities, photography, and typography.

Minimum size refers to the smallest size at which the Local:First logo may be reproduced to ensure its legibility. The only acceptable alterations to the size of the Local:First logo are those that are done on a proportional scale. The logos should never appear smaller than one inch wide. Please observe the reproduction size requirements of the logo to avoid poor quality or distortion.

Colours

Colour provides a strong visual link to the Local:First brand identity across a wide range of applications. Green, black and white serve as the brand’s colours for 4-colour print, electronic and environmental applications.

When printing in black, white, and gray, please use the provided grayscale versions of the Local:First brand logo and background imagery are available through www.mylocalfirst.ca. These alternate images should be used any time full, 4-colour printing is not utilized.

Fonts and Typeface

Print publications utilizing the Local:First logo or branded background imagery must use only san-serif fonts types to display any written text or message(s).

Reversing-Out the Logo

On a dark background it may be necessary to reverse-out the colors of the Local:First logo. The reversed-out logo still adheres to the same usage guidelines as the standard Local:First logo.

Downloads

Images of the Local:First brand are available for immediate download, pending the users registration and acceptance of its terms of use. The images of the logo and background are available in standard, grayscale and reversed-out forms in the following formats: EPS/AI, JPEG or PNG

Standards

All advertising, marketing communications, and promotions that incorporate the Local:First logo and/or other Local:First branded imagery, and the context in which they appear, must be in good taste and represent the policies and philosophies of the brand ownership.

Usage of the Local:First brand will not be approved for any communications that do not meet these standards.

Radio

Any time the Local:First branding is utilized in a medium that utilizes audio, the website address, www.mylocalfirst.ca must be referenced once within each segmented broadcast or production.

TV / Video

Any time the Local:First branding is utilized in a medium that utilizes video, the Local:First logo must be shown and the website address, www.mylocalfirst.ca must be referenced once within each segmented broadcast or production.

Final Review

Local:First reserves the right-of-review and right-of-refusal for approval of all marketing communications containing the Local:First branding prior to and/or after publication. This license will be governed by any competent court having legal jurisdiction within the country of Canada and any subsequent and applicable treaty laws

Revisions 


Local:First reserves the right to modify or revise this Agreement at any time, at its sole discretion.  Any such modification to this Agreement shall be effective immediately upon being posted on mylocalfirst.ca unless otherwise stated.  You are legally bound by such modifications or revisions, and therefore you should regularly review the most current version of this Agreement at: http://www.mylocalfirst.com/.  Your continued use of the Local:First branding following the posting of any changes or modification to these Terms of Service will constitute your acceptance of such changes or modifications.  In the event that you do not agree to any changes or modifications of this Agreement, you should not continue to use the Local:First brand.
